Childhood Memories: Growing Up in a Small Goan Village
I was born in a small village in Goa—a beautiful place blessed with nature, greenery, and a simple, prosperous way of life. Childhood here was different from what most kids experience today. Life was slower, closer to nature, and full of little joys that made every day special.
We would wake up early in the morning, take a bath in the cool water, and head to the kitchen to eat the breakfast my mother had lovingly prepared. There was something magical about homemade food—the aroma of fresh bread, hot tea, or poha filled the house and made mornings feel alive. After breakfast, it was off to school, where we’d spend our day learning, playing, and laughing with friends.
Coming back home, lunch was always homemade and hearty. Outside food or junk food didn’t exist for us. Names like McDonald’s, KFC, or pizza chains were alien; we didn’t even know such things existed. Eating out was a rare treat—reserved only for birthdays, festivals, or special occasions. On such days, having a bottle of cold drink and a batata wada was a luxury that felt like a celebration in itself.
Entertainment was simple but cherished. We didn’t have Amazon Prime, Netflix, or hundreds of TV channels. There was only Doordarshan, and even watching it came with a fixed schedule. For movies, we had to wait for Sunday—the only day when the latest film would air, and the whole family would gather around the TV, sharing laughter and excitement.
Outdoor games were the real highlight of our childhood. Cricket matches on dusty roads, football in the open fields, and endless rounds of hide-and-seek with friends made every afternoon memorable. Staying indoors was almost like a prison. There was no boredom in our lives—our days were filled with running, exploring, and playing until the sun set. Nature, friendships, and simple joys were our constant companions.
Looking back, I realize how magical those days were. Life in a small Goan village taught us to appreciate simple pleasures, value relationships, and find joy in small things. There was a sense of freedom, a rhythm to life, and a happiness that came without gadgets, screens, or modern distractions. Those childhood memories are etched in my heart forever—reminders of a simpler, more beautiful way of living.
